Full Watch Service & Overhaul

A full watch service — also called a complete overhaul — is the most comprehensive maintenance procedure any mechanical or quartz timepiece can receive. Just like a car needs regular servicing to keep running safely and accurately, a luxury watch movement has dozens of precision-engineered components that wear gradually over years of use. Lubes dry out, jewel bearings wear, mainsprings fatigue, and amplitude drops. A proper overhaul restores the movement to factory-fresh operating condition.

At DeChronos, our master watchmakers perform complete overhaul on every Swiss, Japanese, and German movement we service — from entry-level ETA-based automatics to haute horlogerie manufacture calibres like the Patek Philippe 240 PS or Grand Seiko 9SA5. We follow each manufacturer’s published service procedures, source genuine replacement parts, and back every service with a 24-month warranty.

What Is a Full Watch Service?

A complete overhaul is a 9-step process that returns the movement to factory-fresh condition:

1. Intake assessment — written condition report and itemised quote
2. Case opening and movement removal — under cleanroom conditions to prevent dust contamination
3. Complete disassembly — every component separated and catalogued
4. Ultrasonic cleaning — specialised solutions remove old lubricant, oxidation, and contaminants from each part
5. Microscopic inspection — every jewel, tooth, and pivot examined for wear; defective parts replaced with genuine OEM equivalents
6. Mainspring replacement — the mainspring is a wearing part and is replaced on every overhaul
7. Lubrication — manufacturer-specific oils and greases applied at exact lubrication points (different watches require different lube viscosities at different points)
8. Reassembly and regulation — the movement is rebuilt, regulated to factory amplitude/rate tolerances, and tested on a Witschi timegrapher
9. Final quality control — 48-72 hours of rate tracking and power-reserve testing before handover

Pricing

Full service starts from RM 350 for entry-level ETA-based movements. In-house manufacture calibres (Rolex, Omega Co-Axial, Tudor MT, Longines L888, Cartier) start from RM 800. High-horlogerie complications (perpetual calendar, minute repeater, tourbillon, chronograph) are quoted per piece after assessment. All service prices include disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, mainspring replacement, reassembly, timing regulation, gasket service, water resistance pressure testing (where applicable), and a 24-month warranty on parts and labour.

A typical service takes 7–14 working days. Rush service is available by appointment with a surcharge.
